Some Liberal Organizations
After Downing Street Coalition. This recently established coalition of more than 125 organizations is focused on generating momentum, based on the revelations of Bush/Blair crimes associated with the runup to the Iraq War, for the possible impeachment of George W. Bush.
Bill of Rights Defense Committee. This is the central organizing site for the group that has been getting municipal governmental across the country to say they won’t cooperate with the unconstitutional provisions of the Bush administration’s USA PATRIOT Act and the Homeland Security Act. Center for Voting and Democracy CVD is one of the most important groups working to redress the corruption of American democracy.
NAACP. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the US, has been at the forefront of confronting the many charges of minority voters being intimidated and obstructed from voting in Florida.
Common Cause. Common Cause promotes open, honest and accountable government; lobbies for reform legislation; and regularly publishes investigative research on the effects of money in politics.
Move On. This is a powerful, effective site, mobilizing progressives on a wide variety of domestic and foreign issues, including Bush & Co.’s Iraq policy. Move On is now is two-million-strong, and giving the Republicans fits with its creative actions, ads and analysis.
Public Campaign. Public Campaign aims to dramatically reduce the role of special-interest money in America’s elections and the influence of big contributors in American politics.
The Center for Public Integrity. The Center for Public Integrity’s mission is to provide the American public with the findings of its investigations and analyses of public service, government accountability, and ethics-related issues.
Center for Responsive Politics. The CRP provides specific information on campaign finance spending, lobbyists, and business contributions to politicians (broken down by industry, region, and amount).
Global Exchange. GE’s Democracy Project organizes grassroots support for ongoing electoral reform efforts.
Poll Watch is trying to deal with the disappearance of exit-pollers that so marred the 2000 election. It show you how you can set up your own citizens’ poll-watching group.
The Center for Media and Democracy is a nonprofit, public interest organization funded by individuals and nonprofit foundations and dedicated to investigative reporting on the public relations industry. The CMD operates the website, “PR Watch.” which offers investigative reporting on the public relations industry.
Demos is a policy organization focusing on issues of voting rights, economic opportunity, and equality.
